College Life

College is a once in a lifetime experience that I will remember forever. Some people meet their closes friends in college. College life is full with tons of research papers, classes and long exams. Even thou college is full of work, it also has it upside. Freedom is one of the biggest aspects of college. Freshman are surprised at how much more freedom there is in college than high school. In high school, parents wake you up so you can get ready to go to school. In college there is no one to wake you up to go to school. You have to be responsible enough to set your alarm clock and have the will power to get out of bed, and are in charge of your own furniture rental. As a senior in high school, you may feel like you are surrounded by immature kids all day. In college I was surrounded by young adults with different backgrounds that I could learn from. College freedom helped me to be a responsible adult because it taught me to live life on a schedule and not wait till the last minute to do things. In college there are numerous exams you will have to study for and if you wait till the last minute, you will more than likely not be able to comprehend everything you are trying to. I waited till the last minute to study for an exam one time and I promised myself that I would never put myself through that again. At the time I had the same state of mind as I did in high school but the truth is that you will study a lot more in college than in high school.
Another aspect of college is diversity. While I was in high school it seemed like everyone wanted to be a part of one particular crowd. This crowd was thought of as the “cool” crowd. In college there are too many people to actually have a “cool” crowd. People are a lot more mature than high school, so no one sees any crowd as the “it” crowd. Everyone has different groups that they hang with and spend their free time with. One thing I learned from college is that everyone came from a different background than I did. Some people came from expensive private schools and from wealthy families and I also met students who want to public school and was raised by a middle class family. This helped me realize that there is more to the world than what I knew at the time. This also increased my interest in college because I was learning in class and I was learning outside of class. Inside of class I learned new things like Greek mythology, calculus and how to write a correct essay. Outside the classroom I improved my communication skills, I reduced my fear of trying new things and I had a better understanding of the world.
In college there will always be parties going on. Parties are a great way to celebrate after a good grade or long day of studying. I wouldn’t recommend partying too hard because most of the time you will have a class the next morning. My first college party was a great experience because I met new people and tried new things but I would never party that hard again on a class night. I felt horrible the next morning but I still had to go to class. A lesson to remember in college is to never put a good time over class because that lifestyle will not last long in college.
